Fri, 20 Jun 2008 23:31:00 -0000 Dallas, May 16, 2008 http://cindythecook.multiply.com/photos/album/13/Dallas_May_16_2008 Wed, 21 May 2008 23:45:06 -0000 A few days in Dallas <A href="http://cindythecook.multiply.com/photos/hi-res/upload/SDItRwoKCmoAAEUsevo1"></A><A href="http://cindythecook.multiply.com/photos/hi-res/upload/SDIrcQoKCmoAACwJf0I1"><IMG class=alignleft src="http://images.cindythecook.multiply.com/image/1/photos/upload/300x300/SDIrcQoKCmoAACwJf0I1/SSVDP-Dallas%20006.jpg?et=8q4NESMgYWtLV2IRQz4O0Q&nmid=" border=0></A>I spent the 15th thru the 18th in Dallas for a Society of St. Vincent De Paul Regional Meeting.  The Society is a world wide lay Catholic charity which performs works for the poor.  It was an educational, inspirational weekend, where we were able to hobnob with the Society's leadership.  I learned a great deal, had fun, and a lot of fellowship.  This is a view from my hotel room, which was located in downtown Dallas.  We were within walking distance of the Cathedral, and right off of hwy 75.  I was also able to work in a visit with my cousins, and a nephew.  My cousins, brothers, one I saw at a family reunion about 5 years ago.  The other I had not seen for 30 years?  How does this happen?  We get so busy that we can't even drive a few hours to see family members.... This makes them a little cumbersome and evading vehicles while sexually tangled, is out of their range!  They live, mate, lay eggs & die in the wide open areas of TX.  Fortunately, for us, their mating time is about 3-4 weeks.  I wonder how many of them there would be if people didn't drive?!? My car doesn't really look that bad, until you realize-you can't read my license plate!   Once I got home, I washed the front of my car 3 times, plus opened the hood & washed the front of the radiator to get their tiny, sexually-linked bodies out of my radiator grill.  As I was driving today, I saw many vehicles in worse shape than mine!  This too, shall pass. :)  Than... That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!  This is a picture of a couple of us who decided to ride at the Markham Day Parade, May 5, 2008.   We had a good time.  That's me on Shiloh, Ginger riding Honey, Tonja riding Gitter Bug.  Our friend Vencie took the picture.  I've also been working extra time, been to a wedding, trying to keep up with the house & garden......Same as most of you!    This coming weekend, we are driving up to Shreveport, LA to join all our sons at our oldest son's home for a weekend celebration.  We are celebrating Daniel's return from Iraq and grand daughter Meghan's birthday!   Daniel will come home with us and the other two will get back to work drilling more natural gas!  Daniel will stay with us for a week or two and then head back to Camp Lejuene, NC where he penning practice.  It was put on by an internet group I'm involved with, at a nearby ranch.  Me and a couple of my friends signed up.  What a fun time!  At the beginning, we were all totally clueless <IMG src="http://images.multiply.com/common/smiles/embarassed.png"> and eventually the fellow who was trying to teach us  (Ron)realized the futility of teaching us the rules, and getting the job done, so he said "just go out there and cut out some calves & put 'em in the pen."  Then we started having fun!  It was a really nice group of people, laid back and relaxed, and we were just there to enjoy ourselves.  The weather could have been better, we got a couple of showers on us-but it could have been worse!   We were all having a great time, and Ron-our "trainer" reminded us that there are rules following Easter for their Spring Break.  We thought it would be a good time to have them spend some time with Nana & Papa and give their mom a break too.  She is practically a single mother since our son, her husband, works away from home most of the time.  So plans were made to meet in Lufkin for us to pick up the girls.  We planned a camping trip (their first time to camp) at Lake Texana State <A href="http://cindythecook.multiply.com/photos/hi-res/upload/R8DiEgoKCmoAAExtO9I1"><IMG class=alignright src="http://images.cindythecook.multiply.com/image/1/photos/upload/300x300/R8DiEgoKCmoAAExtO9I1/feb232008%20005.jpg?et=JzY4sPSINWlsQXsYGe5grw&nmid=" border=0></A>We had a glorious day in South Texas!  Hubby and I got out and worked in the yard most of the day.  He mowed, and put down Weed n Feed, I pulled weeds from the flower beds, sprayed the shrubs with fungicide, sprayed RoundUp, watered, etc.  I did get a chance to go late in the afternoon and scrape some of the mud & winter hair off the horses.  Here is a photo of Fooler, happy as can be in some new clover!  Tomorrow, I hope to ride at a new place for me.  A couple of us are going to 7IL ranch to ride.  <A href="http://www.7iltrails.com/" target=_blank>www.7iltrails.com</A>  I know a lot of folks have been there and have really enjoyed their time .  I hope the weather holds for us tomorrow!    http://cindythecook.multiply.com/journal/item/15/How_Can_You_Not_Love_This_Weather_ Sun, 24 Feb 2008 03:09:00 -0000 Another Beach Ride Today we went to Matagorda Beach again.  When we have rainwater standing in the arena & pastures, at least the beach is dry enough to ride.  I did not take my camera, didn't want to bore you all with pictures of the same people on the same beach!  That doesn't mean we don't love our rides!  There were four of us and the weather was perfect.  The surf was really high and quite rough, so it actually looked different than it usually does.  The storms that were predicted for yesterday did not materialize, thank goodness.  We had some rain & wind, but no damage here or at the stables where the horses are.  It is a pain to have such wet weather, but I know the rain we get now is important to the pastures later in the year.  Soon it will be rodeo time in Matagorda County.  Feb 22 is the beginning of the Matagorda County Fair.  The actual rodeo starts on Feb 29.  Here is the link: <A href="http://www.matagordacountyfair.com/">http://www.matagordacountyfair.com/</A>  Ho... http://cindythecook.multiply.com/journal/item/14/Another_Beach_Ride Mon, 18 Feb 2008 02:05:00 -0000 Wonderful weather here The weekend is so beautiful.  It actually got hot today!  I took advantage of the good weather to bathe the dogs, and the horses.  Poor shaggy Shiloh didn't really get too clean, because she has sooo much hair this winter, but Fooler got spiffed up.  They got to practice being tied up-because the second you turn them loose, they are going to roll!  So they stood tied for several hours.  I rode Fooler around a bit bareback, fooled around with the horse trailer, just puttered about enjoying the sun!  I'm a bit pink tonight, but happy that the critters are clean for a while.  This morning I worked in the yard, sprayed RoundUp, pulled the dead tomatoes & peppers and some weeds.  My muscles are sore, it is so easy to get "out of shape" and so hard to get "in shape".  Why is that?<IMG src="http://images.multiply.com/common/smiles/wink.png"> Hoping you all have a good weekend too!  http://cindythecook.multiply.com/journal/item/13/Wonderful_weather_here Sun, 10 Feb 2008 00:18:00 -0000 I love webcams!
