Blog EntryTravel in South Texas... May 4, '08 8:17 PM
for everyone

I had to make a trip today to Shiner, TX from Bay City, TX.  The weather was beautiful!  However, it is Love Bug time in Tx. For those of you who are cursed by not living in TX, Love bugs arrive in the spring.  They jump into the air and mate while flying.... This makes them a little cumbersome and evading vehicles while sexually tangled, is out of their range!  They live, mate, lay eggs & die in the wide open areas of TX.  Fortunately, for us, their mating time is about 3-4 weeks.  I wonder how many of them there would be if people didn't drive?!?

My car doesn't really look that bad, until you realize-you can't read my license plate!   Once I got home, I washed the front of my car 3 times, plus opened the hood & washed the front of the radiator to get their tiny, sexually-linked bodies out of my radiator grill.  As I was driving today, I saw many vehicles in worse shape than mine!  This too, shall pass. :)  Thankfully, mosquitoes have been rare this year and last!  (that's a subject for another blog...)

I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather !

They have also started collecting under the eaves of my house. Yes, they are a nuisance. Hope you enjoyed your time in Shiner - it's not that far from me in La Grange! K

they love light/white vehicles. They were congregated around my white horse trailer so bad, I could hardly stand it!

Yuck! They SUCK! That's the first thing Russ did when we got home from Bastrop... Scrubbed the nose of the horse trailer... I had to sacrafice my back loofah for the beauty of the trailer! ha

Yep, i saw your car, it was a mess... we slaughtered a ton of them coming back from tonja's that day. It was like rain, only guts...yuck! Hard to wash off too....the windshield wipers just smear them it seems, i finally had to get a soapy rag to get the grease off my windshield.
